Try Out Scuba Diving In Phi Phi

Here are some of the highlights of Scuba diving in Phi Phi Islands to give you a taste of what is in store for you:

Kled Gaeow Wreck Dive

Scuba Diving in Phi Phi at the Kled Gaeow Wreck Dive, with the Adventure Club Phi Phi

This is one of our most exciting dive trips and an absolute must if you are scuba diving in Phi Phi. Wreck divers will love this site as will marine life lovers and anyone with a sense of adventure and love of discovery.

The HTMS Kled Gaeow was scuttled in March 2014 by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, and she now rests upright at 26 meters depth and is an oasis for the thousands of fish that have made her their home. You do not need any previous wreck diving experience to dive here as it can be a wonderful fun dive, or why not take your PADI wreck diving specialty while you are here and learn more? The wreck itself has large compartments which makes penetration into the hull easy and you’ll learn more about this this as part of your PADI Specialty.

Are you an Open Water Diver? You’ll need to dive a little deeper to dive here so add the PADI Adventure Deep Diver training as part of this dive or make the dive as part of your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. Our Kled Gaeow trip is either an afternoon or a morning trip so whether you are leaving or arriving on that day, it’s no problem!

Hin Daeng and Hin Muang

Explore the Hin Daeng and Hin Muang dive sites with the Adventure Club Phi Phi
About 1 hour away from the Phi Phi islands by speedboat are the two mid ocean sites of Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are the 2 deepest drop offs in Thailand, particularly well known for opportunities of seeing big marine life such as Manta Rays and Whalesharks. There are no guarantees (this is the ocean after all and some things are outside of our control!) but the sites offer a chance to see a lot of amazing sea life and other large pelagic species. These should be on the “must dive” list for anyone who is planning to go diving in Thailand.
This trip is great to combine with either taking the PADI Adventure Deep Dive or the PADI Advanced Open Water course and get certified to dive to 30 meters!

Please note that this trip is offered only between the 01 November and 31 May. This trip is subject to weather conditions and we require at least 8 persons to operate the trip. This is a morning trip and we are out for around 5 hours.

Bida Islands

These twin rocks, which are located to the south of Phi Phi Ley Island, are among our favourites and offer some of the most famous dive sites in the Phi Phi area. Divers come from as far away as Phuket, Krabi and Koh Lanta to dive here, so no scuba diving trip in Phi Phi would be complete without a visit! The extensive dive sites here mean that it is possible to make 2 or even 3 dives around one island without seeing the same area twice.
Dive at the Bida Islands with the Adventure Club Phi Phi

Bida Nok
Bida Nok has a beautiful shallow bay from where we can dive around the island in either direction. You’ll discover steep vertical walls, small pinnacles and fields of healthy, stunning soft and hard corals. There is a sandy bottom which is excellent for finding blue-spotted sting rays and resting leopard sharks – look out for black tip reef sharks too in the shallows.

Bida Nai
Bida Nai is best known for its walls and pristine corals – what’s not to love about that! This is an awesome Phi Phi dive site where we often see large schools of yellow snappers. If you like macro life and interesting critters, some of the highlights here include ghost pipefish, cleaner shrimp, nudibranchs and the occasional seahorse.

Hin Bida
Hin Bida is also known as Phi Phi Shark Point as it is a great spot for seeing Thailand’s famous leopard sharks. This site is an underwater pinnacle which just breaks the surface and it’s packed with interesting marine life including large schools of fish, reef octopus and moray eels. It’s not guaranteed but it’s also not unusual to see a passing whale shark or eagle ray here – another awesome highlight of diving in Phi Phi with us.

Hin Klai/Garang Heng

A favourite of our dive team, this is a shallow submerged site located east of Phi Phi Ley. This rocky pinnacle slopes down to a sandy bottom where, as well as blue-spotted stingrays and cuttlefish, leopard sharks are frequently encountered resting or cruising about. Covered in anemones, there are clownfish all over, as well as lionfish, schools of barracuda, and snappers. Best visited in minimal current this site is suitable for all level of divers.

Phi Phi Ley

Maya Bay on Phi Phi Ley was made famous by the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCapri,o and it is still just as beautiful today. Although we do not dive here, during the high season we often spend our surface interval here eating lunch, swimming, sunbathing and enjoying the view.

Visit Phi Phi Ley for some lunch with an Adventure Club Phi Phi tour

Malong
This is the best site for seeing hawksbill turtles! A shallow shelf at around 5 meters is a favourite haunt of the island’s resident turtles which are often found resting, foraging for food or surfacing for air.

Mushroom Rock
This site offers stunning colourful soft corals, gorgonian fans, swimthroughs, and interesting topography as well as schools of snappers and numerous blacktip reef sharks aloong the shallow shelves and in between the pinnacles and rocks. Another staff favourite! You’ll be blown away by the stunning corals and varied marine life on offer.

Artificial Reef and Coral Nursery

Visit the artificial reef and coral nursery with an Adventure Club Phi Phi dive trip
This site is located just outside Viking Cave on the east of the island, and is very special to The Adventure Club. As part of our coral conservation programs, The Adventure Club was commissioned by the DMCR to manage the location and placement of the Artificial Reef and we eagerly came onboard to ensure the project was managed correctly. The original artificial reef (constructed in 2006) consists of 100 blocks arranged into 3 pyramids, and provides divers with an interesting site and habitat for batfish, scorpionfish, lionfish, snappers, angelfish and clownfish amongst others! Coral growth here is very encouraging and large gorgonian seafans can be seen at the top of the third pyramid. Due tot eh success of the original project a further 8 sets of blocks were sunk in 2015.

Located just meters from this is the Coral Nursery. In 2006 the Phuket Marine Biology Center and The Adventure Club installed a floating coral nursery at the Phi Phi Islands. Coral fragments are removed from donor colonies and transferred to the nursery which is suspended above the substrate, and allows the coral fragments to grow with reduced threats from corallivores.

If you plan to learn to dive in Phi Phi you’ll dive Phi Phi Ley sites during your program due to the easy conditions, but even the most seasoned of divers will be captivated by the underwater life here. Take your PADI Open Water in Phi Phi and you’ll see for yourself!
